Bible Lessons

WE just began using a family Bible Study devotional that is super fun. Julia already asks if it is 'devotion' time in her anticipation of the activity!!

The first chapter of devo's are all based on the story of Moses. So, we learned about the TEn Commandments in yesterdays' lesson and the family fun activity that accompanied the story was this:

bake cookies as a family. set out all the ingredients and measuring tools. Make the first batch of cookies without using a recipe, just put in whatever you think you'd like. Then while those bake, make the second batch using the recipe. Compare taste in the end.

SO, we learned why rules are important, in a very practical fun easy simple delightful bonding sugary way.

These have been very lovely family times so far. The hail storm during our lessons about God sending plagues on Egypt was definately a favorite that solidified"bible learning time" as FUN in our home. I am so excited. heehee. i wonder what we'll get to do today.....

Wow, that's awesome! Who made the no rules recipe up?

I like the hailstorm effect. Very nice. How did you do that?

The 'no rules' cookies were completely done by daddy and julia. the 'rules' were...no recipe allowed, so they just put in as much as they wanted, or as little....i didn't take part, because i know too well the proportions necessary to make cookie dough...well, cookie-ish. haha.

Then the two of them folllowed the recipe together.

The hail storm: newspaper balled up, evenly distributed in one room with a divider down the center of the room. two teams (daddy vs. mom and J) have one minute to get all the 'hail' to the other side of the room. very very very fun.
hahaha. if you enjoy hearing the uncontrollable, real and true giggle of a child...play this game!

What a great Family time!
I would love to see us get into doing things like that. Time is our issue. How do you guys divote your time things? Seperate things and make sure you do things? I guess it is part of disipline, and we will all learn!

Miss you guys! Hugs from our house to yours!

Robyn, that was the biggest obstacle to our devo time...it always has been . Time is so hard to find unless it is devoted every day in a routine, and life is too spontanious and unpredictable to always keep a routine....so, i don't know how we are doing it...but God has allowed us to separate the 10-30 minutes we need to do these after supper.

MOst of the activities are short, and sometimes we don't do them (some are way over Julia's head still) so often it is just reading a story and a bible passage and talking about it. 10 minutes max.

that's how we've been doing it so far. I think you'd enjoy a devo-style like this book, i'm sure there are others. maybe even online resources??? donno. let me know if you find one well suited to your wee family.

loves.

After reading your post, I went online searching for the Veggie Tales Family devotions and I couldn't find it but I found an amazing web site that has weekly devotions with an object lesson, memory verse, etc. They look like very fun object lessons like yours and very suitable for kids of all ages. They also had fun/cheap date night ideas for couples. Check it out at www.familyblueprint.org
Blessings,
Christa
